Thanks for the compliments :D

@Cupcake - the talons are a bit small, but the tradeoff to make them bigger would comprimise the thinness of the legs, and would make the beak a bit more challenging. I will play around with it a bit, but the bigger I make the talons, the smaller the finished model will be, and the harder to fold. I'll see what I can do though, but what I really would like to be able to do is to add the fourth toe. :)

any chance you've found time to draw up a diagram on this piece?

I'm actually in the process of reworking the model, trying to give it slightly bigger claws, and to add the fourth one so that it is anatomically correct. I actually managed to do this, but the strip graft I used is a bit more complicated than I would like, so I'm trying to figure out a better way of doing it. I do have a crease pattern that to post, and if anyone has suggestions on how best to achieve 4 toes without the strip graft I'd be very grateful to hear them.

The cp is very rough and I can't guarantee that the fold assignment is accurate. Feel free to try to fold from it if you wish, but I really want to make this model better, so consider it a work in progress.

Hey RDude, I met you at the PCOC. You were still busy with this design, but I think you got it pretty close now. Congratulations.

Thanks for the compliments Quentin! I'm going to fold a black and red version soon, because now I'm finally done exams! Bernie Peyton suggested that I backcoat a piece of tissue paper to a piece of canson paper, and I'm really excited to try that out; I finally got my hands on methylcellulose. I really like your designs by the way, do you have a photo gallery?

Sorry for going Necro on this old thread, but I finally finished the blackbird!

I'll try to get better pics soon, and have a crease pattern up by the end of the week. I'll fold it out of better paper as soon as I can, and I'll take some better pics.

Ohhh, and thanks for the link to your Flikr page Quentin, I forgot to thank you last time :)

No, I think the last version looks very promising. Of course, folding it with better paper will make a huge difference.
Looking forward to the final result, Andrew!

I agree. Your new version has a much better posture, and the wings are gorgeous! Very refined and graceful-I love it!
