OK. So forum ... or at least moderators agreed that putting links to unauthorized diagrams is forbiden. Anyway if someone really wants them he/she can find those diagrams easily on net. Another question to that topic. Has anyone tried to create this (Phoenix 3.5) model by those "illegal" diagrams? Is it doable? I think that this discussion should be ok ... or am I wrong also on this topic?

Well, one thing is for sure, the diagrams are unclear and not accurate, and is a disgrace to Kamiya and his phoenix. Anyone who downloaded the file and tries to make the phoenix will have alot of trouble and frustration. The most logical and legal way of folding the phoenix will be following the crease pattern Kamiya left us to have us explore and solve using our ability and intelligence, not by following illegal diagrams made by an unkown person.

that was quite funny. I would like to add three points to it:

1. Dont ever use the search engine, its a useless and anoying function of a board. Just open up a new topic about everything that comes into your mind. if a topic already exists, the moderators or the members of the forum that are smart enough to check it first, will direct you to the right topic. this will save you a lot of time that you can spend on watching porn.

2. Nevar evehr cehck yuor spllening. this is a very important point of the forum dawinism. if a reader isn't smart enough to decrpyt the crap you're typing, he's surely not smart enough to give a usefull answer. besides: massivly encrypted entries will increase the uselesness of the search function, so the admin will sooner or later delete it.

3. all people in all countries are the same. there are NO cultural, intellectual, ethnic or religious difference between anybody. so everything that was typed, was only done to provoke and insult you. there no such a thing like a joke, irony, sarcasm or even spelling mistakes. so don't set it in relation to anything. just take it as an insult, thats always the easiest way.

well, technically, probably the best way to fold it is to wait until the official diagrams are out. being an experienced folder (which i feel i am) and an experienced folder-from-cp (which i feel i am not) is not the same thing. b/c it's one of my favorite dinosaurs, i tried collapsing kamiya's styracosaurus using the photos on the forum... just didn't work, and i just can't imagine the phoenix being easier... (and technically, "eyeballing" it, it looks like the structure of his styracosaurus is somewhat similar to kawahata, at least the ideas are relatively the same)

i certainly admire (and frankly, am insanely jealous) of those of you who are able to so.

for the record, the search engine is not without its problems, compared to how often new posters are referred to it. quite frequently, after i pick search parameters, and pick one of the threads to see if it is what i am looking for, i cannot go back to my root search (i have to repeat the search, not a big deal, but mildly vexing i must say, especially when i get the "it's too early to do another search" message). this is actually not a call to redo/update/whatever the search function at all, just saying... it's not all that.

on a completely different note, to sort of get this thread back on topic... technically, what does kamiya consider phoenix v1.0 and 2.0? are there pictures? i see something in his gallery from 1999 that is clearly the predecessor of the current phoenixes... what version does he consider that? for that matter, i have seen one of the ryu-jin v.1.xs... where is v2.x? just looking for pics to gawk at and dream that one day there will be diagrams...

That problem only occurs in certain browsers I think (depending on if your browser refreshes the page or not when it goes back). But either way, there's a way to fix it. After you perform your search, open the resulting threads in a new window/tab. It's also quicker to close windows than to press back and reload the page.

Try to have one sticky per topic, and simplify the topic name.

e.g.
- Origami Phoenix
- Complex Oriental Dragon

If a newbie looking for diagrams for the Phoenix sees the topic, "Satoshi Kamiya, Phoenix, Ryu-zin", they might not bother clicking on it. Heck, they might not even know who Satoshi Kamiya is. (All they're probably thinking of is, "Hey! I saw this great origami phoenix, and I want to make one too!")

For the 3.5 phoenix cp, what size paper would be appropriate? Im thinking 10 inch is too small. This would just be an attempt not for a display model. Any suggestions?

Also can someone post a close-up of the head in the CP. It would help because I wouldnt be able to collapse it at all. The creases are too small.

Well origamibrent814, I would use a large thin sheet of paper that is at least 40cm x 40cm large. The size of the paper depends on the kind of paper you use. For my phoenix, I used mullberry paper, which is easy to fold with and very thin, so 35cm x 35cm or larger would work. If it is very thick paper such as copy paper, you should use a very large peice of paper so that it doen't rip easily.

I bought it at some origami store, I forgot its name

, but it ussually comes in rolls, try searching any paper store for really thin paper.

Oh, here is a close up of the phoenix head for both versions, it is a bit too sharp, but you can see the creases better.
