Friet,
Ehh, it kinda does. Since it's what we were talking about
Oh, heavens no. We just got sidetracked. The title of this topic is 'What does everybody do with their creations?' :)

ilithiya,

I just saw an origami book today at Barnes and Noble and that was what it was focused on, origami models that hang from the ceiling. :)

Other things to do with models:
Public transportation provides endless amusement when it comes to origami. It's fun just to set one on a seat, sit within line of sight and see what people do. Some people will move them, others will just sit on them without noticing.

Kids are fun too, especially the ones that stand up and lean over the back of the seat to see what you're doing. There was one time like that I had given this child a model of Lang's Black Pine Sawyer, which was appreciated, until he started to unfold it, at which point, his mother freaked out and was trying desperately to fold it back together. It was quite amusing to watch. :D

what to do with my models, etc...

Post by dani luddington »

what to do with my finished models? that was the topic right. lol i just got in from 4 days on a train to convention so forgive me if my thought process and writing is really aweful! now that the disclaimer is out there.

i heard a story at convention (Origami USA), i believe it was Michael Lafosse taking a bunch of horseshoe crabs out to the beach one morning and placing them all over the beach and watching from a distance while folks found them and watching the reactions. now i am a people watcher and i would absolutely love to do this!!! Not to mention having a Michael Lafosse original! (wink)

next, i am a testiment of origami being a life saver as for mental health therapy, but part of that is i already love origami!
i have several disorders , and looking at me no one would ever guess what they are, and i wont get into it but it works for ME!
also it greatly reduces the pain i live with in my hands and wrists, so much so that i no longer take any medication for the arthritic pain. which i am happy about as i dont like pills either!

as for hazards- we all make choices in our lives and i refuse to allow negativity into my life about something that has been such a pleasure and a joy in my life and the people i come into contact with. there are also ways to alleviate the "problems", if there are problems.

what was the name of the book you found at barnes and nobles on hanging origami models? curious. sincerely, dani

dani luddington,

I don't know what the name of the book was. I had one book on my agenda and that was all I was there for, I just wanted to get it and go, so I never payed any attention to it.

However, I had to order the book that I wanted. So, when I go to pick it up and will try and find the name of that book. Do not get too excited though. If I am not mistaken the shelf that it was on was their discontinued items.

You know when you first enter Barnes and Nobel through the first doors, then there is the foyer, and then you go through the second doors which is the store. Well, these books were in the foyer. I think those are the books they are trying to get rid of. So, once it is gone there are no more. Don't quote me on that. I will check to make sure that's the case.

Hey, I had a good idea. :D

Create them to use as placemat settings. You know when you have guest over for dinner, and you set the table. If it is special company you may have the works. A fancy placemat, with your fine china, and your best silverware. At the corner of the placemat have an origami creation.

I have a friend that has these placemats made of this black wood, I think they just stained it black, and they were tiny little wood strips that were held together with mini hinges. She had chargers that went on top of the placemats, and she put her fine china on the chargers. It looked really nice.

A Nesting Crane made with that white Momi Paper with the gold and silver flecks would look beautiful with that setting.

I sometimes have origami giveaways at work, and leave models behind on buses, but I still keep too much stuff. My living room, bedroom and desk at work are littered with folds, and I have boxes of models left at my mum's house from the time that I had to move home for a year.

The BOS are having a public exhibition at their next con so I could donate some items to that. And I have a lot of slightly tatty looking older models that I should really just throw out.

Yeah, I have a whole lot of Nesting Cranes now, due to a lot of practicing, and I have been thinking about just mysteriously depositing them in unusual places.

Then people will start seeing these Nesting Cranes appearing for no reason, and then they will say, "The Nesting Cranes strikes again."

Well, at least until I run out of paper. :)

Waiting rooms are good places to leave your creations, especially if you are stuck waiting for a while. Just grab whatever informational brochures/advertizing flyers are lying around and start folding. That way, it's obvious that you didn't just get them from "somewhere else".

My use of some of my the models I make is a bit morbid! At my funeral, I'm hoping that my models will be displayed somewhere and instead of people buying flowers for the gravestone, I'm hoping they will buy an origami model. The monies will then go to a charity and the people who attended my funeral (assuming I have any friends or family that wish to attend) will hopefully have a memory of me. Of course they are then free to file it away in the waste bin or as is the trend in this thread, to leave it in a public place - maybe at my gravestone.

Well, on that cheery note, I'll sign off now.
