Have You Been Published?

Post by notefolds »

Have you had any of your origami designs published? And if so, was it your own book, part of a compilation, or in a magazine? Or something else?

If you have been published, how did it happen? Did you submit to the publisher? Did they contact you? Did you self publish? Have you ever declined publication of your work?

I ask because I was recently contacted by Scholastic and will have two of my designs published in a book that will be released this fall. The book doesn't have a name as of yet. They saw the designs on my website and sent me an email. I use photographs to show how to fold, but Scholastic will be drawing diagrams and writing text. I'm very excited to see my work in print, even though my website has been pretty successful in terms of traffic and ad revenue.

I was published at the Bristol convention from 2006 and at OUSA 07's compilation books and also at the Colombian convention book from2005.

Basically I submitted the diagrams abd they published them. Except for the Bristol one, Rikki Donachie re-did my poorly drawn diagrams.

I've had two things published. First, was my simple checkered pattern which is in Margaret van Sicklen's Origami Page-a-day calendar every year since 2003. And second was a puzzle made of many units (Altekruse puzzle) published in PCOC Play.

Yes my website is down for maintenance because I am changing the look of it. Sorry for the inconvenience but it will be back up in the next couple of days!

Indeed, my copy of Mr. Trollips BOS booklet arrived last night and it is excellent - "Quentin Trollip - Selected Works" BOS67

Folded my way through the 1st 14 models. The computer diagramming is clear and precise, I haven't had any problems completeing them satisfactorily 1st time.
Really loved the "Ballet Dress" and "Scream!" (Mask), which I have combined with the mask sitting between the shoulder straps, all mounted on the "Skateboard".

Includes an interesting little introduction.

Quentin may be too modest to publicise himself, but I recommend this work. 18 models for ~£5.25 - only 30p each!

It won't sate super complex folders designs (hopefully a follow up of his other designs will in the future?), but you can't go wrong otherwise.

In the interests of balance, I don't like the "Arum Lilly" model, and my attempt at "No Entry" didn't hold together well after completion.

Edwin Corries Animal Origami 2 also arrived, and is very nice - I would'nt recommend it to everyone, as the designs are quite stylized, which some people seem to frown upon. But they are all very tasteful and elegant, and fun to fold - I was folding them in ad breaks watching TV through the night, and they aare great quick models - origami snacks if you will with intuitive folding sequences.
"Pig 3" seems like it must always have waiting in the square to be released.

I have never been published - save for sketched diagrams drawn for my niece to fold which found their way into her guide troops newsletter.

Cool - I did not realize Quentin Trollip had a BOS booklet out. Hopefully it will be available at the upcoming OrigamiUSA convention. As an editor for OrigamiUSA's Annual Collections, I had the pleasure of adding a couple of his pieces to the latest anthology. As for myself, I made the unbiased selection of including some of my own works in these books. Also, I went the self-published route and released a few books. My most recent one must be pretty bad, as apparently it has been banned for sale by OrigamiUSA. - Marc
