photo composites/ photoshop are ok by me, but I prefer real, digitally unaltered compositions. What do the real moderators say?

altering the actual look of the origami is not allowed.

It's up to Anermak and you what is allowed in this challenge and what not. Changing photos in any way is not against the Forum rules as long as the photos aren't offending (and hej, we are talking about Origami pics, how should they be offending?).

Do Jack Spearow and that second non-important man (Orlando Bloom) have heads? I saw just first movie and I think that cut just scenes with Johnny Depp is enough...

Usually the results are posted on the first day of the following month (in this case August). This can very depending on the judge. Be careful with posting last minute, if the judge decides to post the results at midnight of his/her time zone it can happen that your entry doesn't make it in time even though it is still the last day of the month in your time zone (and maybe even hours until midnight).

Curse you finward i had designed that same thing. just that mine was worse looking and i didnt get a camera soon enough to post it on the forum.

CatEater, I hope you post yours anyway. It is not about winning as much as it is about sharing origami, participating and doing our best.

I'll set the deadline at midnight Eastern standard time (Boston) of July 31.

Another note on the use of Photoshop: Obviously "Photoshopped" work is fine and good for this entire forum, but I was referring to contest entry pictures - i.e. what qualifies, what does not.

Being and avid user of Photoshop myself, I nonetheless prefer unaltered, undoctored photographs when it comes to showing off artwork (artwork that is not photoshop-art). It's more honest, and in most cases actually looks better - it's actually difficult to get all the colors and lighting mesh together realistically in Photoshop compositions. In real life we don't have such a problem.

A little bit of color correction is as far as I usually go for art pics.

Astrolabe – Navigational Treasure

No it’s not Davy Jones’ Heart
It’s not Jack Sparrow’s compass !
It’s Not the golden compass (that’s different movie)

It’s an astrolabe.

In The Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow had a special compass to find what his heart desired. He was looking for the heart of Davy Jones. Like some 18th. century pirates he might have used a sextant to navigate. Davy Jones was navigating in the 17th. century, so he probably first used an astrolabe.

The dead man’s chest belonged to Jones so I added an astrolabe to help Jones navigate after he retrieves his heart.

My model is based on a Portuguese astrolabe displayed in “Pirates of the Caribbean – 1494 to 1720” by Cruz Apestegui page 37).

My entry is those funny little rock/crab creatures seen in Davy Jone's Locker in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. (Seen around the scene in which Sparrow licks a rock.)

Folded from a 37x37 cm square of unknown paper :S (It is a lot thinner than printer paper but is not tissue paper)
