Shouldn't the judgement be done until August 4, 11pm GMT, this topic will become a poll that runs for 72 hours and the winner will decide and judge the topic for this month, being excluded from winning.
I've spent the past few days preparing and flying to California - a midway stop to the JOAS convention - so I kind of lost track of this- sorry!
Thanks, everyone who has submitted an entry. I was impressed with not just the good folding, but the creative interpretations and subjects that people chose. (I would not have thought of something as whimsical as Finward's entry)
The first prize goes to firstfold for his three well-researched creations, the astrolabe chest, face of Jack, and pirate compass. I thought the chest was was well designed and folded - a good 3D action model with just the right amount of artistic embellishment, and the paper choice was good, gold but not gold foil which I think would have been distracting.
The compass also had some good design work going on, with 3D features and nice use of color-change.
The runner-ups (if I may) goes to finward, origami_8 and cupcake for choosing not-so-obvious subject matters and making them work! I'd also like to say that I really like origami_8's creative photography and well-picked paper.
Congratulations firstfold, I completely agree with the decision (good idea having the chest with mystery object).
And, as Jared said, you do have to create the "Monthly Folding Challenge - August 2008" topic, as well as post the theme of the challenge and the rules for the month
