Hello and welcome on board.

Begin this step with folding the flap up along the valley fold as shown. The tip of the flap will swing to the left as you do so, just press it flat and you are done with step 28. Step 29 is a valley fold.

Actually there are a lot of video tutorials also for complex Origami on YouTube. The question is always what you define as complex or difficult.

On step 28 there are two layers over each other only grab the upper layer and fold it up as shown. It's a little bit like folding a birdbase from a preliminary base, with the difference that you do not precrease and only fold one side that has some additional paper.

As Anna mentioned, it's really hard to say what a difficult model is. I think "complex" models are mostly too time consuming to demonstrate on YouTube, at least with my definition of complex (e.g. Ancient Dragon by Satoshi Kamiya). However, there are quite a few videos on advanced models on YouTube. For example, I post tutorials on models of varying complexity at http://www.youtube.com/user/AdamsSara / http://www.happyfolding.com

Examples of more advanced models are:

Last Waltz by Neil Elias: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 45C27646BC
Valentine by Robert J. Lang: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 5FF0274AD6
Maple Leaf by Kyu-seok Oh: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 07A30B3F87
Rat by Eric Joisel: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... C88792ACD7

Hope this helps,

In step 20 you had to reverse fold in and out. Ever done a blintz bird base? It should be kinda like that.

hey michelle, I don't know if this helps, but on step 28 you have to really unfold a part of the left side. look at anna's advice on this post: it's a little bit like folding a birdbase. try finding a birdbase tutorial and try making an association between it and step 28, it might help!
i'm still working on this origami. the end is really hard, and when i finish the thing it looks more like a mars lander than a dragon, but i'm sure it'll come out one of these days.

steps 37/38/39

Post by Lia »

after a long time, i'm trying this origami again.
I don't understand the arrow on step 37, and
I'd like to know if in steps 38 and 39 you're supposed to do something or they're just showing you whatever.
thanks

The arrow in step 37 means "Repeat Behind", so you are supposed to make a petal fold in front and one behind. Steps 38 and 39 are just in progress drawings, the result can be seen in step 40.

thanks anna
ok, i've just noticed something strange...on step 34, the tail has two flaps on top, and on step 36, they're gone!
i'm thinking now that maybe the steps where they teach how to make the head are going wrong because the paper i'm using is too small...how big do you suppose the paper should be?
thank you so much for all the help

Are we talking about the same diagram? For the life of me I can't find a tail in step 34.
If you think your paper is too small, just take larger paper. What I think is fitting mustn't be fitting for you, I like to fold small size, so probably what I would recommend is too small for most people.
