license question

Postby oyster » December 2nd, 2009, 4:52 am

I have 2 questions:

1. If I exhibit origami models in a zoo/musuem/... FREELY for everyone who has bought the ticket for zoo/musuem/... entrance, do I need to pay for the origami desginers?

2. what does an origami copyright/license cover? Only diagram, only model or both?

For myself, if I publish a book, I don't mind when my reader (a reader, I mean, he buy my book legally) sells the models he folds, so long as he does not misguide that he is the designer. And it is better if he tells others where to buy my book.

I believe you will need to acknowledge the designer wherever you are showing it, but you do not have to pay! And technically, I think, copyright on origami only covers diagrams or CPs. I think.

I did something like this back in October, I just made sure to state explicitly who the designers were, and didn't try to pass it off as my own design.

From what I have heard, copyright covers the actual model, diagrams, and the CP, but it does not cover the design process used or the individual parts and techniques in the CP (if it did, designing would be almost impossible!)

And its always a good idea to get permission from the designer before selling one of their models or teaching one that is only diagrammed in a book
