De pedagogiska spelen i Bornholmslek är desamma. Bornholmslek kan användas både i förskolan/förskoleklassen och hemma. Barnen uppmärksammar språket och dess formsida. De kommer så småningom att förstå kopplingen mellan språkljuden och bokstäverna. Så småningom kan de både bygga ord och läsa ljudenligt stavade ord. Bornholmslek är en pedagogisk app som är vetenskapligt väl förankrad. Den bygger på en teoretisk syn på läsning, som visar betydelsen av fonologisk medvetenhet och hur man praktiskt och lekfullt kan utveckla den. Genom appens olika spel läggs grunden för en god läs- och skrivstart. Barnen är välkomna in i språklekhuset för att upptäcka de olika våningarna. I Bornholmslek finns varken poängsystem, tidsbegränsningar eller musik. LYSSA Barn behöver öva att lyssna och uppmärksamma ljud i omgivningen, som inte är språkljud. Färdigheten hjälper barnen senare att växla uppmärksamheten mot språkljuden. Lyssnandelekarna passar lika bra för de allra yngsta, som de äldre eleverna. LJUD Leken innehåller ljudillustrationer med ute- och inneljud. De identifieras och kopplas till rätt bild. Först är det ljud till konkreta föremål och färre bilder. På den andra nivån ökar svårighetsgraden och det finns fler bilder som kopplas till mer abstrakta ljud. Elever med annat modersmål gynnas speciellt av de många vardagsljuden, som både kan vara bekanta eller obekanta för dem. I samtal om ljuden utvecklas både ordförrådet och berättandet. SAGOR Barnen får lyssna på animerade minisagor med och utan rim. De kan också själva trycka på föremålen i sagan för att i efterhand lyssna och återberätta sagan. RIMLEK Tidigt börjar barnen att fascineras av rimord. Rimlekarna utvecklar barnens förmåga att avgöra vilka ord som rimmar. Det är ett första steg i att börja uppmärksamma språkets form. Den första rimleken omfattar enstaviga rimpar. Scenen skiftar därefter och nya tvåstaviga rimpar presenteras. LIKA I BÖRJAN Här får barnen öva att lyssna och identifiera första ljudet utan koppling till bokstav. I varje omgång visas ett föremål/djur. Rösten uttalar ordet. Därefter presenteras fler föremål/djur som ska sorteras efter begynnelseljudet, som hör till den aktuella omgången. HUR LÅTER ORDEN – i början I spelet övas kopplingen mellan språkljuden och bokstäverna. Det första steget är att lyssna efter vad ett ord börjar med för ljud och hitta rätt bokstav. Spelmiljön har bytts ut och nya bilder lagts in. Orden är desamma från tidigare version. Spelet omfattar två svårighetsnivåer. På den första nivån börjar orden på de s.k. hållkonsonanterna (ex. f, l). På den andra nivån börjar orden på stötkonsonanter (ex. b, d). HUR LÅTER ORDEN – i slutet Nästa steg är att identifiera hur orden låter i slutet. Det kräver mer av spelaren att klara av att lyssna på sista ljudet i ord än första. Även här är det hållkonsonanterana, som identifieras först. Språkljuden uttalas klart och tydligt och kan vara till stor hjälp för alla med ett annat modersmål än svenska. BYGGA ORD En bild visas tillsammans med ett antal bokstäver. De ska placeras i rätt ordning så ordet bildas. Spelet omfattar två svårighetsnivåer. Orden är alla ljudenligt stavade men ökar i längd och komplexitet. De som klarar spelet Bygga ord har tillägnat sig kunskap om hur det går till att läsa och skriva. Spelen är anpassade för barn med motoriska svårigheter. Förutom att dra och släppa, går det även att trycka på föremålen/bilderna för att få dem att automatiskt förflytta sig.
